HISTORY OF WINNERS’ CHAPEL INT’L (LIVING FAITH CHURCH).
Who is the founder of Winners Chapel International?
Bishop David Oyedepo is the founder of the Living Faith Church International. At the age of 26 in 1981, he had an 18-hour long, vision from God.
In this vision, God spoke to him saying,
“Now the hour has come to liberate the world from all oppression of the devil, through the preaching of the Word of faith; and I am sending you to undertake this task”.
As a man of prompt obedience, he began his teaching ministry through a weekly fellowship meeting called ‘Faith Liberation Hour’ and a monthly seminal that covers Friday evening from May 29, 1981 in Kwara State.
Two years later the church was formed with four members. The church itself began operating on December 11 1983, after its commissioning on Sep 17 1983 by Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). They planted the 1st Church in Kaduna, called, Living Faith World Outreach on Dec. 11, 1983
Thus, beginning from Ilorin, Kwara state (Nigeria), along Ajase Ipo road, the church moved down to Kaduna by divine instruction in 1983. The call to get down to Damascus was received, and the Bishop interpreted today’s Damascus to be the land of Persecution. From Kaduna, the church was then led to get down to Lagos and raise an army of kingdom giants in 1989. This leading further culminated in the church’s arrival at her present International headquarters known as Canaanland.
The Faith preaching ministry has since revealed that God is a respecter of our Faith, and would not be pleased to do anything for us until we show true Faith. By Faith, the church has continued to set the pace and has spread across 6 continents of the world. Over the years, He accomplished the following feats;
- Published and released his first 2 books. ‘The Miracle seed and the law of Faith’ – April 25, 1985
- Founded the Word of Faith Bible Institute, which today runs across many nations of the world on September 1st 1986
- Began church planting work in the northern part of Nigeria in May 1987
- His mission acquired a 13-acre property in a prime area of Kaduna city called Garden of Faith in September 1989

- Founded Dominion Publishing House, whose printing press has today grown to an industrial scale and currently publishing Bibles in July 1992.
- By January 1994, following another divine mandate “the harvest of Africa is overripe, rush in and preserve it from decadence, embarked on Mission to Africa, his mission now has a strong presence in over 41 nations of Africa.

The Twelve Pillars of The Commission
according to the church’s website, God commissioned the presiding Bishop of this commission with a Word of Faith ministry to our generation. Remember Paul said, “…if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?” (1 Cor 14:8) As a Commission, we have experienced amazing testimonies ever since this commission was handed down – that is over thirty years now!
The Holy Ghost further inspired the servant of God, Dr. David Oyedepo, to classify the Word of Faith He has committed into his hands into the specific areas of emphasis, in direct response to Isaiah 40:6, “The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry?…” He has named these 12 areas of emphasis as the 12 Pillars of our Commission. We have crossed Jordan into power, bearing the ark of liberation. Here are the 12 stones, after the order of Joshua 4:1-8, 20-24. Having stood firm upon these twelve stones! And they have resulted in breakthroughs – both for the ministry and all that are partakers with us, of the same grace.
The Church is founded upon twelve core emphases as follows:
- FAITH (1 John 5:4, Eph. 6:16)
- THE WORD (John 1:1-12; Heb. 1:3)
- SIGNS AND WONDERS (Ps. 82:5-7; John 3:8)
- THE HOLY SPIRIT (Acts 1:1-8; Isaiah 10:27)
- PROSPERITY (3 John 2; Ps. 35:27; Zech. 1:17)
- PRAYER (1 John 5:14)
- HEALING (Isaiah 53:3-4; Jer. 8:22; Matt. 8:17)
- WISDOM (Prov. 24:3-4, Isaiah 33:6)
- SUCCESS (Joshua 1:8-10)
- VISION (Prov. 29:18, Jer. 29:11)
- CONSECRATION (Hebrews12:14; 2Tim. 2:19)
- PRAISE (2 Chro. 20:20-22; Ps. 67:1-7; 149:1-9)
The theological position of the church is Pentecostal.
