FASTING ESSENTIALS

⇒ What is Fasting?

A spiritual exercise which popularly involves giving up food for a period of time in order to spend more time with God and focus our thoughts on Him.
Turning our attention from the pleasures of this world so that we can fully focus our attention on God and find our greatest pleasure in Him.
Sacrificing something we value to pursue something God values for and/or through us.
Denying ourselves what we desire as a way of putting our desire for God first.
Setting aside less important things to seek the most important God.
The discipline of putting God’s eternal purposes before our temporal desires.
Reserving the time, energy, and resources normally given to an activity to pursue God and His will.
Disconnecting with the world so I can make a deeper connection with God.

⇒ What Makes Faasting Effective?

As you fast, it is always important to answer the question “What am I separating myself from and what am I intentionally separating myself to?”
Every time fasting was mentioned through the scriptures, it was accompanied by Prayers. In one example, after the disciples had wondered why they were unable to cast out a demon, Jesus’ reply in Matthew 17:21 was “…this kind does not go out except by PRAYER and FASTING…”
Fasting without Prayer/spending time in God’s Word is powerless and no matter how much food you’ve abstained from, it can easily be likened to a casual diet or starvation. When we deny our flesh of it’s cravings and desires we must be intentional to feed our Spirit man all that it needs to grow.
Prayer/Studying God’s Word is what stirs up our inner man, activates the things lying dormant on our inside and fills up the areas of emptiness. The significance and effectiveness of biblical fasting is in how much we maximize the vacuum that is created.
Join us on NSPPD EVERY MORNING Mondays to Fridays by 7am(WAT) and every evening from the 8th to 28th of January by 5:30pm as we close our fast for the day.
