Topic for Today: Discern, Be Wise
Focal Scripture: Matthew 2: 1-2
“1. Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, 2. Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.”
That is the Focal Scripture of Streams of Joy Devotional today.
Our Focal Scripture speaks of wise men who came from the east to Jerusalem, in order to see Jesus. These wise men saw a star, and they were prompted to come to Jerusalem. Ordinarily, when a star appears, anyone who cares to look at it can see it. So these wise men were probably not the only ones that saw the star, but they were the only ones who understood and discerned that this star meant that a new king had been born.
Friend, as you close 2022 and gravitate into 2023, dare to discern the times and seasons. Understand what others are yet to understand. Look beyond the surface and see what is hidden beneath the ‘stars’ on your horizon. Let the eyes of your understanding be opened to see the meaning of the signs that others have not discerned. Let your eyes be opened to see opportunities before others see it. Let wisdom find expression in you.
The wisdom of God demands that you understand the times and seasons. The wisdom of God demands that you see the traps of the enemy ahead of time before you walk into it. The wisdom of God demands that your eyes are open to know the investments to make and the ones to avoid. The wisdom of God demands that you discern the stars that others merely admire. The wisdom of God demands that you see beyond what others see.
Today, I pray for you: may you not be ignorant of your times and seasons. May you know what to do, when to do it, how to do it, whom to connect to, whom not to connect to, who to run from, who to run to, and what direction to run to. May you discern the opportunities and relationships that will positively change the trajectory of your life. May you find wisdom to navigate through the negativity that surrounds you and your environment.
Again, may God grant you understanding of the times and seasons of your life. Receive the wisdom to discern the times and seasons.
Proverbs 24: 3 says: “Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established:”
