TOPIC FOR TODAY 9th JANUARY 2023: KEEP MOVING
Focal Scripture: Matthew 25: 1
“Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.”
That is the Focal Scripture of Streams of Joy Devotional today.
Our Focal Scripture speaks of how the ten virgins took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. Their need for lamps is suggestive of the fact that visibility was poor, or that darkness had set in at the time of their movement. So, their environment was not bright enough to encourage movement, but they moved all the same. Darkness may have set in, but they were not going to be stopped. They made movements despite the darkness.
Friend, hear me as I hear the Lord: you belong to that generation that moves even when it is dark. You belong to that generation that will advance even when your environment is too dark to allow anyone to move. You belong to that generation that cannot be stopped by the darkness in your nation. You belong to that generation that will rise despite the dark policies against you. You will make progress despite the roadblocks.
Those women were too interested in their journey to meet the bridegroom, and were not willing to allow darkness to stop them. In 2023, never use darkness as an excuse not to move when you should. Never use the state of the economy as an excuse for not starting what you should start. Never use the negative men around you as an excuse for not shining as brightly as you should. Don’t burn less and shine less because of darkness.
When a man becomes a burning and shining light, he does not conform to the darkness in the environment. A true burning and shining light uses the occasion of darkness to manifest the light that is within. Even if you are afraid, keep moving. Even if you are not sure of how your journey will end, keep moving. Even if you are not sure of whether the bridegroom will be on time or not, keep moving. Even if it is dark, keep moving.
Remember, your invitation is to meet the bridegroom; you were not called to use darkness as an excuse. Arise and move despite the darkness.
Ephesians 5: 14 says: “Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.”
